We’re Back On The Air

September 21, 2017

It’s been a long time since our last post. It may seem like we released our new CD, “Destination Unknown,” and then we disappeared. That’s not completely true.

Life has brought some changes for our band. The biggest change is that Aaron re-located to the San Francisco area at the beginning of the year when he took job with Google (such nerve!). I’m off trying to find a cure for what ails me. Lou is holding down the studio where he’s been all along.

Since the release of our third album last year, we’ve finished four new songs. And through the miracle of modern music making, we will soon be starting on more material. The plan is to keep writing and recording. And I will, hopefully, be better at keeping you up to date on the comings and goings of our band.

Meantime, our loyal fans, Suburbia’s music is still available on iTunes and Spotify among dozens of other  music download sites. Stay in touch. Don’t be shy about letting us know how you are doing.

Hawaii…Words Don’t Quite Work

July 20, 2015

Just got back from two weeks in a beautiful place, Hawaii. We visited Oahu (the city), Maui (the suburbs), and Kauai (the country). The color of the ocean, the majestic waterfalls, the beautiful sunsets, the wonderful people, all made this the experience of a lifetime. I highly recommend it!Hawaii Sunset-0521Check out our Facebook page for a few more photos.

Suburbia’s “Over the Rainbow” Video

March 18, 2015

For those of you who missed it or who are new to our site, we produced a YouTube music video last year, of our version of the song made famous by Judy Garland from the movie The Wizard of Oz, entitled “Over the Rainbow.”

We took a different approach to the song and added what we hope is a most relevant message; perhaps something to think about.

So have a look, and if you like it, don’t be afraid to pass it on.

Songwriters Write for a Song

February 20, 2015

“I don’t do it for the money. I do it for the love of creating and the desire to share my art with the world.”

Now, more than ever, this is the mantra and reality for the modern day songwriter. Once upon a time long ago, we would actually receive payment for each time our song was played. Imagine that? Songwriters were protected as artists who deserved compensation for their creations. But fast forward a few decades, usher in streaming, and tens of thousands of plays may result in a couple of thousand dollars; and that’s for the highest paid songwriters among us. Imagine what the numbers are for those of us who make up the majority of (unsigned) artists. gallery014With the exception of licensing deals, we no longer have control over our own art.

So, yes. We write songs because we love to, because we must, and because we have something to say. It would be lovely to get paid but we keep on going. And once in a while, someone says something nice or a live audience responds, and we realize that’s all we really need.

New Year’s Revelations

December 5, 2014

PosterIt’s that time of year again…If you’re an artist and you choose to reflect and evaluate, why not make it count? Don’t make resolutions that you most likely won’t keep. Instead, realize how what you are already doing may need only a little tweaking to get you to where you want to be. Renew your faith in yourself and understand:

  • Artists create. As long as you are creating you are moving forward.
  • You are your harshest critic. Find people who’s honesty you can trust. Listen.
  • Commercial success is only one form of validation.
  • Every idea isn’t worthy of your energy, but it is worthy of your consideration.
  • Generosity doesn’t mean you have to give your talent away, but you can always share it.
  • What you do as an artist may go unappreciated for now, but your creations will be here long after you are not. And you never know…

We want to wish all our families, friends and fans a wondrous holiday season and a New Year filled with health and goodness. And thanks for listening.

Jeff, Lou, and Aaron
